Shake Off Hibernation: Get Creative in Class Today!

Why I Love Teaching Both Online and In‑Person Enamelling Classes

Many of you already know that I offer both online Zoom classes and in‑person workshops. My upcoming beginner class in Etobicoke has already sold out (thank you!), and over the years I’ve also had the joy of teaching many wonderful groups online. Each format brings something special to the learning experience, and I truly hope you’ve had the chance to explore both.

How Online Learning Became a Creative Lifeline

During the pandemic, countless schools shifted to online learning out of necessity. What’s fascinating is how many have continued offering virtual classes even now—and I’m so grateful they have. Online learning has opened doors for so many makers who might not otherwise have access to specialized instruction.

One school that embraced this beautifully is Silvera Jewelry School in California. During the pandemic, I was fortunate enough to take almost every class they offered (yes, really!). Their approach was exceptional: amazing instructor lead lessons, one‑on‑one support, lively interaction with other students, and consistently high‑quality instruction. It set a standard I still admire.

Bringing That Same Quality to My Zoom Classes

When I teach online, I strive to offer the same thoughtful, supportive experience. My Zoom classes include:

  • Detailed lesson plans

  • Supply lists and optional kits

  • Step‑by‑step demonstrations

  • One‑on‑one guidance

  • A welcoming, interactive learning environment

If you haven’t tried an online class yet, I hope you’ll consider it. And if technology feels intimidating, please reach out—I’m more than happy to help you get set up. There’s something truly special about learning right in your own studio while the teacher and fellow makers come to you.

What I’m Learning Next

Speaking of online learning, I’m taking a class with Silvera Jewelry School next week—a three‑day series about Experimental Enamelling: Rust and Degraded Surfaces with Amanda Denison. It looks absolutely fascinating and even includes working with steel. I can’t wait to dive in and explore new techniques.
